How to be a

Child Care Provider 

In 6 Easy Steps 

The Child Care Resource Network Can Assist You in Developing Your Business 

The Six Steps:

· Learn about being a registered provider in Oregon; attend a Family Child Care Overview class

· Attend a Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect class 

· Attend a First Aid/CPR class that  includes pediatric information 

· Obtain a food handler’s card

· Complete your application and  criminal background check with the Child Care Division

· Complete your home health and safety inspection with the Child Care Division

For General or Training Information & Class Sign-up call: Lisa 842-2591 or lisaw@jobcouncil.org

Once You Are Registered: Increase your income and expertise

· Sign up with a USDA Food Program and get meal reimbursements

· Get listed with DHS to accept families with State subsidized child care

· Sign up for classes or mentoring

· Free referrals of families to you in need of child care that best match what you offer

· Business technical assistance

· Ideas for marketing

· Referrals to community resources for you and your families

· Classes and workshops for new and renewing providers

· Quarterly newsletters

· Mentoring in areas of professional growth, early literacy and caring for children with special needs

Patty Carty is our Child Care Provider Consultant. Need tips on marketing, forms for enrolling families, contracts, safety issues or discipline policies? Patty is here to offer the technical assistance you need as a child care professional. Have a challenge with a parent, child or need advice on ADHD? Patty can pair you with an experienced child care mentor for one on one guidance. 842-2590 or pattyc@jobcouncil.org

René Wold is our Health Care Consultant. Questions about illness, head lice, or developmentally appropriate activities? René  can assist you with these and many other issues related to the healthy growth and development of children.  842-2593 or renew@jobcouncil.org

Lisa Whittier is our Provider Training and Referral Consultant. Lisa works with our child development instructors to plan exciting and innovative trainings so you can improve the quality of your business and get or stay registered. Cathy Belisle is our Parent Training and Referral Consultant. Cathy works with parents to develop child care referrals to providers, through a sorting process that matches their needs with what you have to offer.
